Red Velvet Waffles that are actually good for you, and all natural colouring from beetroot powder (no sugary, syrupy, artificial pre-made mixes here)!
Packed with fibre, protein and healthy fats, these waffles make a nutritious start to the day, but also a delicious sweet treat. Drizzled with moreish vegan Cream ‘Cheese’ Glaze, this is a recipe you’ll be making over and over again.
I use the Vegan and Organic Raw Cacao Protein from Activated Nutrients, which gives these waffles a rich, chocolatey flavour.
Healthy Red Velvet Protein Waffles

Waffles
- 1 1/2 cups white spelt flour or whole wheat pastry flour (180g)
- 1/2 cup chocolate protein powder (45g) (Activated Nutrients Daily Protein Cacao)
- 1/3 cup raw cacao powder or cocoa powder (35g)
- 2 1/2 tbsp beetroot powder (18g)
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 2 cups unsweetened almond milk (450g)
- 1/3 cup maple syrup (90g)
- 1/4 cup coconut oil (35g)
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Optional 1/4 cup dark choc chips
Cream Cheese Sauce
- 1/2 cup cashew pieces, soaked for several hours, drained and rinsed (80g)
- 3/4 cup plain unsweetened soy or coconut yogurt or greek yoghurt if not vegan (170g)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- squeeze of lemon juice
- 1/4 cup almond milk
