5 ways to make your New Year’s resolutions STICK!

by Jennifer Hopper |

Why do some people seem to be able to make their New Year resolutions stick and others seem to falter? How do you stay on track and kick some serious goals this year? We’ve got some top tips that will give you a boost here and now!

1. Every day is a fresh start!

Every day, every hour, every minute and every second offers you the chance to make a ‘fresh start’, so don’t worry too much about little slip ups. Get over the guilt of breaking your diet or relying on an old habit by simply choosing to make a fresh start from the next moment on!

2. Measure your progress!

If you don’t regularly measure your progress towards your resolution, you can lose perspective on your achievements and forget to pat yourself on the back! Keep a diary, no matter how brief, to jot down your efforts and make notes on your successes!

3. Create a ‘vision board’

A vision board is a terrific way to keep you focused on what you want to achieve. Using visual cues (like pictures cut from magazines, photos and words of inspiration stuck to a board) a vision board is an in-you-face daily reminder of where you want to be and what you want to do!

4. Light the way

Everyone needs encouragement along the way to achieving their goals - especially when they are long-term and might require months or even years to fully realise. Schedule in some pats on the back at intervals along the way to achieving your goal. Reward yourself at the 2 week mark, 3 month mark and beyond in little ways that feel special and well deserved.

5. Be your own coach

Keep the self talk positive and be your own coach when it comes to sticking to your resolutions! Berating yourself every and laying on the guilt is going to backfire and send you back to square one. Rather, stay upbeat and kind when you talk to yourself - especially when you back slide or lose your way.
